Things to Do Before installing your new floors

To minimize dust in your home, vacuum your old carpet before it’s removed and, after it’s up, vacuum the floor thoroughly.
Moving your furniture. Plan ahead and make sure your furniture is moved before installation. If you want our installers to move your furniture please discuss with us ahead of time. Be sure to remove all fragile items from the room, and don’t leave anything—such as drapery or blinds—hanging over the installation area.
Measure door clearances before you have your carpet installed. When the new flooring is installed bottoms may rub. Plan in advance to have someone shave or saw the correct amount off the bottom of each door so it does not drag.
Paint and wallpaper before installation. If you are planning on painting or wallpapering your rooms, we suggest that do so before having your new floors installed. Be sure and retain extra paint to do touch ups to your walls after installation is complete.

Carpet Installation

Proper installation of your carpet is important to make sure that is last for years to come. Our installation team will:

Prepare the surface

Your installer will make sure the surface is clean, dry, and level.

Put up tack strips and lay carpet pad

The installer will nail or glue tack strips to hold the carpet in place. Then the pad is laid and secured with staples or glue.

Line up seams

This step is crucial to make sure your carpet looks its best.

Stretch the carpet

This is a work-intensive step. Our installers comply with industry standards to make sure your carpet looks its best for years to come.

Hardwood Floor Installation:

Proper installation is critical to retaining the look and durability of your hardwood floor.

Current flooring

Our installation team will evaluate your floor and subfloor construction and will let know whether to remove the existing flooring or install on top of it. If removal is required, the installer can determine how much preparation is needed for the subfloor—like use of a leveling compound—or if a new subfloor should be placed over the old one.

Moisture testing

Proper moisture testing of the wood flooring and subfloor are required so floors won’t cup, buckle, or develop gaps later. We will do this critical step for either solid or engineered hardwood.

Our installation team is trained to work from multiple cartons to make sure the look of your floor is even and beautiful. We use only proper equipment to nail or glue boards into place. Professional installation ensures that your floor’s beauty will last for decades to come.

Tile & Stone Installation:

Professional installation of tile and stone is critical to ensure that the floor is long lasting and resists chips and cracks. Our professional installers will do ensure your tile and stone is installed properly so it lasts for years to come.

Tile and stone must be installed over a subfloor that’s structurally sound, rigid, level, smooth, and clean. Sometimes, cement backer board must be laid first. Preparing the subfloor is the most critical step in achieving a correct installation—

First, we will determine the tile layout. Then, using chalk-lines as a guide, your installer will spread mortar in small areas and will place the tiles in it. Spacers are used between tiles so that they are evenly placed. After the mortar sets, grout is applied.

Cleaning and curing

The installer will carefully clean the tiles, ridding them of all grout. After the installation is complete, it’s necessary to stay off the floor for 24 – 48 hours, to allow the tile or stone to firmly set.

Laminate Installation

Current flooring

We will evaluate your existing floors. Laminate can be installed directly over some floors, but in some cases the floors will have to be removed first. Our professional installation team will know the proper procedure, as well as how to make the floor level and smooth.

Moisture testing

We will check for moisture in the subfloor to prevent later problems with buckling or cupping.

Room shape

Our installation team will know how to handle any challenges caused by room irregularities and odd or tight spaces, like cabinetry or a kitchen island.

Vinyl Floor Installation

Current flooring

We will evaluate your existing floors Our professional team of installers will start with a flat surface, which may require extensive prep work—such as removing the existing floor or installing a new subfloor on top of an existing floor.

installation method

Vinyl flooring is less sensitive to moisture than hardwood, but the existing subfloor will still need to be tested so that moisture-related problems can be avoided later. In floating floors, as the name suggests, planks are attached to each other, not to the subfloor. Glue-down floors require greater installation skill for the exacting process of adhesive application. As discussed below, room shape can also be problematic.

Room shape

The configuration of a room can be a challenge, requiring precise measurement, cutting, and placement of flooring—another reason why proper installation by a professional will give you high-quality results.
